Time, Scale, and Uncertainty: A Conversation with Jitish Kallat

This keynote conversation with acclaimed artist Jitish Kallat traces how his work moves across historical, planetary, and cosmological scales. Drawing equally on archival data and material processes, the discussion reflects on perception, language, and uncertainty.

Jitish Kallat | Artist, India

Jitish Kallat’s work probes the intersections of science, historical memory, and existential inquiry, often reflecting on planetary presence and our place in the cosmos. His solo exhibitions have been held at the Art Institute of Chicago; Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney; Frist Art Museum, Nashville; Ian Potter Museum of Art, Melbourne; Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Mumbai; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; and the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, which presented a mid-career survey in 2017. His work has also been shown at Tate Modern, Serpentine Galleries, Mori Art Museum, Pirelli HangarBicocca, Martin-Gropius-Bau, and in numerous biennales and triennials, including Venice, Gwangju, Havana, Curitiba, and Kyiv. Kallat was curator and artistic director of the 2014 Kochi-Muziris Biennale, and has since curated Tangled Hierarchy and I draw, therefore I think.

Srinivas Aditya Mopidevi | Founder, Studio Public Memory, and Curator, Kiran Nadar Museum of Art

Srinivas Aditya Mopidevi is a writer and curator based in New Delhi. He is currently Curator, Visual Arts, at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Department of Visual Arts, Ashoka University. In his multifaceted career spanning fifteen years, he has been involved in research and curatorial projects with the Park Avenue Armory and Asia Society in New York. He has held positions with the Devi Art Foundation, Raqs Media Collective, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Terrain.art, Nature Morte, and Pollinator.io, New Delhi. Mopidevi holds three Master’s Degrees from M.S. University of Baroda, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard, NY. He is the co-curator of Climate Recipes, an itinerant research project that documents intergenerational wisdom on the land and environment. Alongside Thukral and Tagra, he co-curated Sustaina India, an art, science, and climate action platform, where he now serves as an advisor. He is a recipient of the CIMAM 2025 Travel Grant to attend the CIMAM Annual Conference in Turin.
